What Every Girl Needs in Her Closet for Fall

Autumn is just around the corner. Although it might not seem that way because in the heart of the midwest, the highs are still in the 90's and pools are still open for business. Yet, that isn't keeping this girl from planning her closet contents for the fall months and gearing up for cold weather, football tailgates, and many trips across the US.

From filling a whole folder with Fall/Winter Outfit Inspo on Pinterest (follow me: @yungmad_), to pulling out my collection of sweaters and boots, it's time to do inventory on what I have and what I need to look chic, fun, and -- best of all -- COMFY these autumn and winter seasons.

Here is the list of items I have compiled that are going to be necessities for any fashion girl this fall...

Midi Dresses
While it might seem odd for a twenty-something to get on board with a dress that goes past her knees, bear with me. Get the right dress, and you can make the whole outfit look cute, chic, sexy, and effortless! Midi dresses are also great for layering. Whether you rock a slouchy cardigan over, or a tight turtle neck beneath, you guaranteed to look stylish. You can also rock them with a pump or a sneaker -- although I'd recommend you avoid booties with this one unless you are over 6' tall. Booties with a long dress will tend to cut off your leg and make you look shorter and take away from the whole look. Below are a few of my favorite midi dresses at the perfect price for college girls and working women alike!

My Pick: BCBGeneration Midi Faux Wrap Dress ($78)

Turtle Neck Tops
While most people get excited by all the sweaters and boots and scarfs and hats and all that's warm, fuzzy, and dark colored. The best part about a fall and winter wardrobe is often overlooked... LAYERING. Not only are you blocking the cold from touching your skin, you can make a million outfits by wearing each garment a different way. That is how I came to discover the marvel of the turtle neck top. While you can rock it by itself with a pair of high-waisted denim in the fall, layer on top a leather jacket when the temps dip below 50 degrees F. Or even rock it under your favorite spaghetti strap dress or cami to rock some of your summer wardrobe staples all year long. You can also wear them under a baggy sweater, with the collar peaking out or over a white button down. THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!!!

My Pick: Chelsea28 Layering Turtleneck ($49)

Wraps/Capes
I'm going to be honest with you... I never keep my big, warm capes and wraps in my closet. I keep them in my car. Why? Because they're the perfect solution to the "I forgot my coat" days when you just need to reach into your back seat and find something cozy to cover up in. Not to mention that if you're every stranded on the side of the road, they double as a blanket to keep you warm. But that's beside the point. They're the greatest mixture of slouchy and chic and can make even sweats look comfy.

My Pick: Free People Big Trail Poncho in Indigo Combo

White Sneakers
First it was the white Converse, then the Stan Smith Adidas sneakers. While this is a style that is not unique anymore, it is one that is classic. My only objection to white converse is that the canvas turns yellow so quickly while the Stan Smith's leather upper and rubber sole tend to look newer, longer. I love the basic white sneaker because of the versatility of it. It's a shoe that can be worn all year round and with dresses, jeans, shorts, and sweats. It can both dress up and outfit and dress one down, depending on the look you're going for.

Flat Mules
I have never met a flat mule that I didn't love. Not even kidding. Any print, color, material -- you name it! -- I love them.  Flat mules first came on my radar last winter when the hottest show among celebs and fashion bloggers alike was the black leather Gucci mules. Like the white sneaker, these bad boys are both fashionable and versatile and can make an outfit go from "I woke up like this" to "Don't you wish you woke up like this too?" Pair them with a dress, sweats, jeans, leggings, whatever your little heart may desire and you got yourself a  l o o k. Check it out.

Makeup Looks

Hey everyone! I know it has been a couple of months since you have last heard from me, and trust me, I will get better at this. I am going to be having my official blog launch in August so keep an eye out as I will be posting to my Face n Fashion Facebook page as well as all my personal social media sites. In the meantime, however, here are a few of my favorite makeup looks that I've recently done. Stay tuned to my instagram (@yungmad_) to see more of what I am up to. :)

Best and Worst Trends of 2016

For every glamorous and amazing trend of 2016, there was a catastrophe that was so shameful it should never cross over into 2017 -- or any other year, for that matter. And although there were some very shameful looks born in 2016, it was also a year I came around to a few trends, like chokers. I used to hate them so much -- with a burning, fiery passion -- but now I've come around and will wear one from time-to-time.

Some of the trends that took over the year of 2016 -- that need to die -- are as follows:

10.) Cold-Shoulder Tops

Honestly, the concept is really cool. Whoever came up with the idea to cut out the shoulders on long-sleeve T-shirts, you are both a genius and a dumb ass. Like, it's cool and different but I have never seen anyone pull one off. It is a garment that serves no purpose other than accenting arm fat. Even those without arm fat, put on a cold-shoulder top and -- bang -- there you go. It is something that looks so amazing on the hanger but so sad on and clothing that makes people sad, needs to stay in 2016.

9.) Hoodies Without Sleeves

The only thing more annoying than seeing someone put on a hoodie without sleeves, is seeing someone wear a RIPPED hoodie without sleeves. I don't know why this is a thing, but I blame Instagram and Yeezus. There is no point and they do not look good on anyone. Man or woman, you look crazy.

8.) Miss Me Jeans (Or any jean with rhinestones on the butt)

Honestly, this trend needed to end in 2007. Get it together, people.

7.) Neon

Unless you are running at night or going to a black light party, there is no point. Neon colors are also very unflattering on, like, every skin type. I don't get it. Even Snookie moved on from the "Jersey Shore" phase.

6.) Legging Jumpsuits

Even Kim Kardashian can't pull one of these bad boys off without looking like The Penguin villain off of the Batman. The only positive thing I can say about this skintight, sad excuse for an "outfit" is that I salute anyone who really has the self confidence to walk through public while everyone can plainly see every inch of cellulite, fat roll, food baby, and camel toe. Like that's impressive. I can respect that. But not enough to care to see it in 2017.

5.) Any Article of Clothing with the "Make America Great Again" Slogan

No, I am not a Trump supporter but my opinion on wearing his slogan across your forehead has nothing to do with that. The campaign is over. Move on. You won, the world got that -- loud and clear. The only thing worse than losing Prince in 2016 was the shame the whole election had on America as a whole. 2016 is over, and so is the election. Wearing the "make America great again" slogan now is like attending a high school party when you're a junior in college. Close the yearbook on the election.

Now is where I'm going to transition into talking about makeup trends to leave behind in 2016.

4.) UNBLENDED EYESHADOW

Nothing makes me strongly dislike someone before they open their mouth more than unblended eyeshadow. As someone who loves makeup and can appreciate a nice wing or perfect contour, I feel personally victimized by the fact that your solid black eyeshadow is thick and opaque from your lashes up to your eyebrow. If you don't blend your eyeshadow because you don't own a blending brush, I will buy you one. Seriously, no one needs to see that in 2017.

3.) Duck Nails

This should have never been a thing. Ever. The picture speaks for itself.

2.) Overfilling/Not Blending your Eyebrows

Everyone is guilty of this. I will admit, I did this like sophomore year of high school. But, please, if you know a friend who draws their eyebrows on to look like on giant, unnatural unibrow or like caterpillars resting over their eyes, h e l p  t h e m.

1.) Unblended Contour

It is simple. Like you can just google Jaclyn Hill and know how to contour. It shouldn't look like you have an unwrapped Snickers bar on your cheekbone and it definitely shouldn't look like a giant brown  (or orange) line running from your hair line all the way to your mouth. (If you are a drag queen, this doesn't apply to you. You do you, boo.) If you are just contouring your face to go to work or out with friends, leave the unblended "sculpted" cheekbones in 2016, and buy yourself a blending brush. Also, again, I recommend watching makeup tutorials.

Now, although I am aware trends fade and with the new "fast fashion" world we live in, they fade faster and faster. But these are a few trends that I never want to see fade. Not anytime soon, anyway. Here are my 10 absolute favorite trends of 2016 (or from previous years but they were still alive and well in 2016).

10.) Velvet

I love everything about velvet. It's pretty, shiny, and soft. I hope the velvet trend lives on forever because I can't get enough of it. This past year I had purchased everything from velvet shirts and dresses to velvet shoes and necklaces. I am 110% here for it.

9.) Over-the-Knee Boots

Whether they are suede or leather, they are nothing but sexy. Even if it's a 6-inch stiletto heel or no heel at all they look good on everyone. You can rock them with jeans or a dress. You can wear them out partying or out shopping. They are just amazing all around. If you don't have a pair, get a pair. You'll thank me later.

8.) Boyfriend/Mom Jeans

Nothing makes me feel more confident with my body than my vintage Lee mom jeans. They fit perfectly on my waist AND thighs which, nowadays, is next to impossible to find. Boyfriend jeans are a little different, I still put them under the same category on comfort. They are loose and fun and you can wear then and eat three whole meals without having to unbutton them. This is an extremely important factor when jean shopping. You can't deny it.

7.) Suede/Leather Jackets

You can dress them up or down but no matter what, you are warm. The leather jacket has a way of making any outfit super edgy while the suede jacket adds a pop of color to the perfect black and white outfit. They can be worn with jeans and tennis shoes, and they can be worn with dresses and heels. They are the perfect "going out" jacket. Something you can throw on top of sweats to make them look cool.

6.) Oversized Denim Jackets

I was never a huge fan of denim jackets. Especially over dresses. But in my defense, for years all I saw were the cropped "Hollister" version of the denim jacket over ugly floral dresses. Totally not my style. But in 2016 the denim jacket was reborn into a versatile, yet edgy, piece to any look. Whether it's distressed or wool lined, they are amazing in my opinion. One of the few good things to come out of 2016.

5.) Bodysuits
Left photo courtesy of BCBGeneration

I hate tucking in my shirts. This is literally the best invention since sliced bread. Period. The end.

4.) Jumpsuits

Just some clarification, I do not like  l e g g i n g  jumpsuits. However the traditional, loose-fitting, jumpsuit I am all here for. They are comfortable, easy to wear, and they will never fail to make your booty pop. (This is huge for me as I have no butt). I love that you can wear them in the summer or winter and you can either wear them as PJ's or as a formal outfit. It all just varies by what material and cuts go into making the jumpsuits.

3.) Leather/Suede Booties

Literally my go-to shoe. Casual or for work, they are the most flattering and comfortable heel I own. I can wear them for a 6-hour shift and follow it by going out. I love them. They go with jeans and dresses and added flare to every look. Nothing screams "casual chic" like a heeled booty.

2.) Oversized T-Shirt

You can wear them big and comfy with socks and undies for an all day Netflix marathon. You can wear them over leggings for class. You can tie them into a crop top. And you can tie them to the side to look like a normal sized T-shirt. They are amazing. I will always, always, always love me an oversized tee.

1.) Oversized Sweaters

If I could live the rest of my life in one article of clothing, it'd be an oversized sweater. They are big, warm, and comfy. They are also cute, chic, and fun. They are easy to accessorize and play with. Whether you wear them with jeans, leggings, or layer them over a dress, oversized sweaters are a go-to outfit maker.

Now happy new year and have an amazing 2017..(:
